Do you mean the varification codes? If so, I totally agree with yu.

I agree. The thing is to find a way of having blind people be able to register for things, and still prevent spam bots from doing the same thing.

Daniel, although i totally agree with you when you say it is annoying, it is most unlikely to stop, and will rather increase. However, the best thing would be that many of us write an email to whatever site or email thing we resister to andask them to put an audio alternative.
hotmail has done that, in a miserable way but they did, i don't know about google as some one had done it for me in India, but gmail has become sensitive to our needs though.

Google implamented a voice file which is really good. LJ has also done this. Both did this upon request. From what I hear yahoogroups is having a bot problem and the bot don't even have to subscribe to a list to spam a group. It's happened to a few lists I'm on.

i personally like the email conformation system. very easy, just press the reply button and it is done. that audio stuff isn't very good for people like me that have a hearing problem as well as a visual problem.

The Problem with e-mail confirmation, is that spam bots could just as easily respond to the e-mails. What needs to happen is that someone needs to come up with a system, that is possible for a human to complete, impossible for a computer to complete, and does not require any sound or visual codes. To date, I don't think anyone has come up with such a system.

What about the logic test type thing? I can't remember what site this is implemented, but I know it's been done.

Post 9 by rat (star trek rules!) on Saturday, 21-Oct-2006 15:17:31

what do you mean by a logic test?

Post 10 by Phoenix (I'll do my homework...later.) on Saturday, 21-Oct-2006 22:55:38

I'm not sure about the logic test, but the security codes are annoying. Hotmail's audio security is practically useless and every time I call the number listed on AOL's site I get an answering machine...not to mention the other sites I've tried to sign up with and couldn't because of those security codes..The email confermation things are okay, but like some people said: they're way too easy to complete and any spam bot could do it...they need to come up with some sort of compromise. These are, at the moment, my views. :)

Hey! I totally agree! It really frestrates me! (when I sign up for message boards, or whatever, and it says "If your blind or visually impared, (and an e-mail address is given) contact this person to conferm your account" or whatever! It needs to stop! Wait, Google, finally implemented an audio confermation for there GMail? If they did that's good! Now I can confuse people, and have 3 different e-mails!! lol!!! If it isn't for GMail, then okay. Hope they emplement one soon!

one thing that relly makes me mad is when a site goes ovehboard w the code thing. there is this one site that requires you to fill out a code just to contact them! how stupid is that?

I agree with everybody on this subject. Those security codes are useless for users of screen readers. Sure the audio alternitive is a solution, and since I do a lot of audio production work, I can usually tell what those things are.
